Seven Card Stud BasicsSeven card stud is a form of poker that had probably ruled the gambling era of the past half century. Nowadays, seven card stud's popularity still reigns in the East Coast in the United States and in most parts of the world. The game starts with three cards dealt to each player; one face up and two face down. Each player can of course see their own three cards. The player with the lowest upcard must make a raise. The bet depends on the amount of the stakes. Other players would rather place a minimum bet to play it safe. The bring-in bet is essential only when the card suits come into play, and the player with a lower suit is forced to make the bring-in bet. If one player brings in the minimum hand, the next player can either fold, call, or raise by completing the bet. The next round of betting is called the fourth street. Here, the player with the highest hand can either start the bet or check. To check is to decline the bet. If there are instances that the other players may have higher hands, they too can bet or check. They can also opt for a raise, but it is of course dependent on whose hand is the highest and the best. The raised amount then goes to the pot. The fifth and sixth streets are similar. In fifth street, each player receives his third card and another round of betting occurs that starts with the highest hand. This time, all bets and raises will be increased. On the sixth street, the highest hand bets first with another increase on the raise. The next round is the seventh street, also called the River. At this point the cards are dealt face down. Each player should have the best five card hand, out of the seven cards he has. The idea is to keep a close eye on the opponent's cards; and take note that a card which improves one's hand also improves the opponent's hand just the same. So there is not much advantage to one player alone. It is not advisable for a player to jot down the opponent's set of cards just to make sure he remembers everything he sees. It will be such a hassle to the other players if they'll see their opponent slowing the game down. Acting and thinking quickly is the key, especially when playing live or casino-based seven card stud. Practice and experience will definitely make a master out of anyone who loves the game. |
